Richard Starkey celebrated his 70th birthday yesterday in New York’s Time Square. Starkey is better known as Ringo Starr, the drummer for The Beatles. He is also currently my favorite of the “Fab Four”. I say “currently” because I tend to go through phases. You know, there are times when we all love John Lennon for his forward thinking song writing, and who doesn’t think at times “man, Paul McCartney looks cool playing left handed bass!” And of course, George Harrison can easily improve my mood by reminding me that “Here Comes the Sun”. But for now, Ringo is the man. (via Mr. Allder’s Globaloria Blog

Humanities * This past school year, I taught AP English and English 10. Each school year I teach whatever level of English has the most students and needs a teacher for the overflow. The previous three years, I taught English 12 twice and English 11 once. * I currently teach Journalism and am the faculty advisor of Oak Glen High School’s online newspaper, Bear Facts, and its print literary magazine, Bear Paws. * I currently teach four levels of American Sign Language (ASL). I am a RID certified sign language interpreter and interpret all the services at my home congregation on Sundays and Wednesdays. * I grew up bilingual with a Japanese mother and American father. When Weir High received a grant to purchase online satellite classes, I became a facilitator for Japanese. When Hancock County went to the 4X4 Block system, those types of satellite courses went by the wayside. I began teaching Japanese for 10 years until there arose a teacher certification program for Japanese. At that time, WVDE insisted that I take courses in Japanese to continue teaching the course. At $99 an hour for 6 hours per year that I would have to promise to take, this was economically infeasible for my family. That ended the Japanese language at Weir High School. * I have coached Academic Games for over 20 years in the Language Arts games of LinguiSHTIK and Propaganda, which includes current events. * I have also taught ACT/SAT Prep courses.
